Head and scalp massage has been practiced for centuries
It’s worth taking the time for a regular DIY head and scalp massage, which is totally blissful. You’ll feel fantastic and enjoy a variety of amazing health and well-being benefits.
Benefits:
- Encourages growth by stimulating hair follicles
- Boosts scalp health, reducing itchiness, dryness, dandruff, eczema, and psoriasis
- Balances the scalp’s natural oils to revitalize and strengthen hair
- Relieves tension and improves mood
- Enhances concentration and mental clarity
- Aids in better sleep
Steps:
- Prepare some warm oil, such as Hair Affair Pouring Massage Candle.
- Give your hair a gentle brush to remove any tangles.
- Sit on a comfortable chair, and rest your elbows on a table if possible. Let your head fall forward. Place your hands on either side of your scalp with fingers spread. This position improves circulation by encouraging blood flow to the scalp.
- Close your eyes, and connect with your breath. Focus on gentle, rhythmic inhalations and exhalations to relax.
- Drizzle some warm oil onto your scalp. Using the pads of your fingers and thumbs (not your nails), apply firm, consistent pressure. Massage your scalp in small circular motions, starting at the nape of your neck and moving upward. Proceed from the front of your head to the back and then to each side.
- Move gradually down the back and sides of your neck, along the occipital area (base of the head), and onto your shoulders to relieve any built-up tension.
- Part small sections of your hair, adding small amounts of oil as needed. Continue working over the scalp and neck as many times as you like. Try using zig-zag movements with the outside edges of your hands.
- Keep your knuckles close to the scalp. Gently grasp fistfuls of hair at the roots and tug from side to side.
- Continue to breathe deeply, allowing your thoughts to come and go.
- Comb through your hair, ensuring it’s completely coated with oil. Wrap your hair in a thin towel or hair wrap. Leave it for at least 30 minutes before washing out, or leave it overnight for deeper conditioning. (Put a towel or t-shirt over your pillowcase to protect it.)
Tips for Oily Hair
Don’t worry about using a scalp oil if you have oily hair. This practice can prevent the over-production of natural oils, thus reducing the appearance of greasy hair.
